What to Expect

If you think that CBT might be for you, you can get in touch with us via email. Please let us know the best way to contact you, so that we can arrange to have a brief discussion with you to find out whether we might be able to help.

Assessment

Your first appointment will be an assessment appointment, during which we will discuss your problem in detail and consider how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy might be helpful for you. The assessment will usually last 50-60 minutes. Your therapist will work with you to develop a therapy plan to suit your needs.

If CBT is not the most suitable therapy for you, we will always do our best to suggest alternative sources of support.

Treatment

Therapy sessions usually last 50-60 minutes, and take place on a weekly basis where possible. The likely number of required sessions can be discussed at assessment and negotiated during the course of therapy.

To enable you to get the most out of CBT, you and your therapist will agree tasks for you to complete between sessions, such as diary keeping and practising techniques discussed in therapy sessions. See What Is CBT? for further information.

What do I need to access therapy online?

All you need is a device which can receive video calls, a pen and paper for notes and a private space you feel comfortable to talk in, where you will not be disturbed. It is helpful to check your video and audio quality before your session begins.

Your therapist will provide you with more detailed information about how to access online sessions when you contact us. If there is anything you are unsure about, please ask your therapist for more information.

Where do face-to-face therapy sessions take place?

Our face-to-face sessions currently take place in consulting rooms on Abbeydale Road, Sheffield. Your therapist will provide you with further information about the location and arrangements for appointments when you contact us.
